HPCQS Contributes Its Expertise to Supercomputing Conference 2023 in Denver
This year, the annual conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis (SC23) took place from 12 to 17 November in Denver, Colorado, USA. Once again, the HPCQS partners used the event as a platform to update the expert audience on the latest project progress, current technical debates and their own product portfolio, as well as to engage in an exchange with the HPC community.
The French start-up PASQAL provides HPCQS with two quantum simulators that are coupled with supercomputers at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (Jülich, Germany) and the Très Grand Centre de Calcul (Bruyères-le-Châtel, France). At SC23, PASQAL showed demos of its current work for HPCQS at the booths of HPCQS partners Forschungszentrum Jülich/JUNIQ and CEA. Various use cases from the financial, energy and pharmaceutical sectors were recently tested on the hybrid 100+ qubit HPC-QS system. In particular, a novel quantum algorithm for accelerating drug production showed promising results, as Krisztian Benyo, Technical Business Developer at PASQAL, explained.
The HPCQS consortium's expertise in High Performance Computing also led to lively specialist discussions at various Birds of a Feather sessions, which dealt with the state of the practice, latest research results and the promotion of the HPC-QC community:
“PA Component-Based Approach for Integrating Quantum Computing Test Beds into HPC Environments: Challenges and Opportunities”
- HPCQS project coordinator Kristel Michielsen (FZJ) – invited speaker
"IEEE Quantum-HPC Working Group"
- HPCQS partner Venkatesh Kannan (ICHEC) – session leader
“Enabling I/O and Computation Malleability in High-Performance Computing”
- HPCQS partner Estela Suarez (JSC) – invited speaker
”Modular, Container, and Pallet Racking – for the Nex Gen Data Center?”
- HPCQS partner Thomas Eickermann (JSC) – session leader
In addition to the HPCQS partners Forschungszentrum Jülich, CEA and our service provider PASQAL, numerous other research institutions involved in the project (BSC, CINECA, ICHEC) and our industry partner EVIDEN were also on site at the Supercomputing Conference with their own stands to give visitors an insight into their portfolio and for networking purposes.
